SENER attends the World Metro & Light Rail Congress as a leading company in the field of mass transit and rail10/04/2018 (Spain)
The engineering and technology group SENER attends the World Metro & Light Rail Congress international trade fair to be held in Bilbao on 18 and 19 April. The event brings together the main actors in the professional metro and urban transport sector.
SENER offers the full range of services needed to develop complex integral projects - from initial planning to operation stages- and offers different financing, construction and operational formulas. It is a company both in civil construction (roads, tunnels and viaducts) and systems (electrification, power supply, signage and communications), as well as the architecture of stations, where it offers services of very high added value. For this reason, it is constantly investing in R&D to remain in the technological vanguard. In total, the company has worked on more than 15,000 km of rail studies and projects, 1,200 km of metro and light rail transit (LRT) systems and more than 70 urban transport systems, making it one of the main transport infrastructure companies in the world.
In fact, according to the specialist journal ENR (Engineering News-Record), SENER is number 25 among the international engineering companies in transport engineering design and number 15 in mass transit and rail. In this latter sector, it is also the number one company in Spain and the seventh in Europe. Similarly, the British publication The European has named SENER as the Company of the Year 2017 in Infrastructure and Transport for its projects carried out in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
SENER will have its own stand at the World Metro & Light Rail Congress, on which it will exhibit its worldwide high-tech projects. In metro and urban transport, SENER has many years of experience in conventional metro lines: those of Lisbon, Guadalajara, Bangalore, Chennai, Santiago de Chile, Madrid, Bilbao, Algiers, Oran, Bogotá, Hanoi, Panama and São Paulo are all SENER projects; in automated driverless or UTO driverless systems, such as Line 9 of the Barcelona metro, the longest driverless line in Europe; light rail or tram (LRT), in Abu Dhabi, Porto, Valencia, Dublin, Tenerife, Kaohsiung, Oran and Taiwan; and monorail, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and People Mover.
Among its most recent contracts, of particular note is its participation in the Guadalajara metro in Mexico, the Bogotá metro in Colombia, the Angels Flight funicular in Los Angeles, California, lightmetros in Canada, with references such as Finch, Hurontario and Ottawa, that confirm SENER's positioning in that country, and the Melbourne metro in Australia. In the Middle East, SENER is present in the Doha metro and the Lusail LRT in Qatar, the Riyadh metro in Saudi Arabia and the Dubai metro and Abu Dhabi LRT in the United Arab Emirates. It has also worked on the catenary-free tram in the centre of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; on the new circular line of the Porto metro in Portugal; and, in Spain, on Line 4 of the Bilbao Metro and the new connection between the current Trambaix and Trambesòs networks in the city of Barcelona.
SENER will also show its activity in high-speed engineering, in which we can highlight the role of the EDP (Engineering Delivery Partner) contract for HS2 Limited, a public company responsible for developing and promoting the new high-speed rail network in the United Kingdom. As well as in relation to several stretches of the high-speed line in California and the Toluca - Mexico City line, which uses conventional technology, but with an innovative design for complex structures. In Spain, it is participating in high-speed projects for Adif Alta Velocidad and on the Valencia-Castellón high-speed line.
Similarly, SENER is part of the MEXLOOP consortium, a transport system using hyperloop technology that is expected to connect Mexico City with Guadalajara, via León and Querétaro, in 40 minutes. It is based on pods that levitate within tunnels and travel at speeds of up to 1,200 km per hour.
Another of SENER's spheres of activity is the urban integration of new high-speed lines, as well as railway stations and terminals, with references such as Los Angeles Union Station (California), La Sagrera station (Barcelona, Spain) and the Sol interchange (Madrid, Spain), which has the largest excavated cavern in the world in a high-population-density urban area.
Thanks to its experience, SENER has a complete, integrated approach to the development of transport systems, which enables it to participate in all stages of the project, from planning to the design, construction and operation of the line, and to cover all the technical disciplines involved with its own professionals, as its staff includes experts in each of them.
The project consists of the environmental study plus development of the preliminary engineering of the route alternatives for the California high-speed rail line between Palmdale and Burbank. SENER is responsible for the provision of specialized advisory services regarding High Speed issues considered within the Los Angeles Union Station Master Plan. The Master Plan is considering the future station to be part of the projected California High Speed Railway Network.
