Contracts at airports in Spain, Ireland and Portugal10/12/2018 (International)
SENER was recently awarded new contracts for the airports of Dublin (Ireland), Barcelona-El Prat and the East Region network (Spain), and Lisbon (Portugal).
At the Dublin airport, SENER, as part of a temporary joint venture (TJV) with ARUP, will do the detail design for a new 3.1-km long runway and its associated taxiways. This contract is scheduled to last ten months, and was awarded by the consortium made up of the Irish company Roadbridge and the Spanish company FCC, which was designated as the preferred construction bidder for this project.
SENER already worked at this airport last year, specifically on the contract to design the construction work for the new runway.
In Spain, SENER has received two new contracts in a TJV with Auding Intranesa. The contracts were awarded by Aena and require SENER to, on the one hand, provide Technical Assistance with Project Management to remodel and expand the South Dock building at the Barcelona-El Prat Airport, and on the other, to provide Technical Assistance with Project Management and ATDOCV (Spanish acronym for Technical Assistance with Site Management, Control and Oversight) of the airports that make up Aena's Lot 5 “East Region" airports, which is to say, all the airports in the following regions: Aragon, Catalonia, Valencia, Murcia and Castilla la Mancha.
The work is expected to last 32 months in the case of Barcelona-El Prat, and four years in the case of the airports in the East Region network.
Lastly, in Lisbon, SENER will work on improving the access roads to the Humberto Delgado Airport. This contract was awarded by ANA, Portugal's airport manager, and the period for completing the work to improve and adapt these roads is four months.
These contracts are in addition to several other airport projects, with SENER having successfully completed over 100 contracts involving this type of infrastructure and related facilities in various countries. SENER is currently working on auditing the feasibility studies for the new airport in Bogota (El Dorado 2), on the expansion of the terminal building at the Denver Airport (USA) and on the Master Services Plan for the new airport in Mexico City, among others.
The President of SENER, Jorge Sendagorta, has been awarded the Honorary Member's medal, which is granted by the Spanish Institute of Engineering (Instituto de Ingeniería de España, IIE). This institution decided to give the distinction to Jorge Sendagorta after he was nominated by the Spanish Association of Naval and Ocean Engineers, in recognition of his professional career. According to the institution: “It's a prize to the engineer, but undoubtedly also to the engineering carried out at SENER, which is spearheading Spanish engineering around the world and in the most innovative sectors."[+]
