The new building for the headquarters of SENER-NTE in Catalunya was planned and built in 2013. The building is placed within the technological business center of Parc de l’Alba, in Cerdanyola del Vallès, Barcelona. The building houses the technical and the management offices for the development of the both companies projects .

The new building was designed to meet the high-tech demands of the group. It is located on a plot of 7,500 m² of land and occupies 8,225 m² above ground level, with an extra capacity of 3,375 m² for enlargement.

The building is organized in two large blocks, articulated with each other by common spaces on the ground level, such as a large central hall and a large interior patio that provides natural light to the interior facades of these. The entire complex is closed top by a large photovoltaic pergola, which provides sustainable energy to the building meanwhile protects it from the solar radiation.

Environmental sustainability was one of the fundamental premises on which the design of the building was based. As a result, the building obtained an A-Energy Efficiency certification according to the Calener program and an overall rating of 4 leaves according to the Green Building Council Spain Certification. Among the main strategies for its sustainable design, in addition to the above mentioned photovoltaic pergola, the building is design with green roofs, with a rainwater system collection by the means of a buried cistern that allows the later use for water irrigation, with efficient and local materials manufactured at a radius less than 200km from the building and with a level of 85.7% of natural lighting.

The needs program is broken down into the following areas:

  • Offices (4.600 m²)
